Kate Horner volunteers as a first aid community educator in York, alongside being a full-time PHD student.
When asked why she volunteers for the British Red Cross, Kate said:
“Volunteering for community based first aid means that I can reach a variety of people and audiences spreading vital first aid knowledge. The groups that I teach are very rewarding. I love teaching children first aid; they have memories like sponges and are very receptive. Similarly, I often work with expectant or new parents. Learning how to treat a choking baby gives them great peace of mind.
I very much believe that everyone should know first aid because you never know when you might need someone to help you.
Knowing these skills enabled me to help a member of my own family when they were having a heart attack.”
Could you teach first aid like Kate?
