Volunteer at a Children’s Centre: make a difference & grow in confidence, like Rehana did

Volunteers like Rehana support the work of Children’s Centres across Sheffield, helping parents with young children in local communities.  Rehana volunteers at Manor and Castle Development Trust, in the East of Sheffield, supporting families with young children to get involved in activities in Children’s Centres.

Activities include midwife & health visitor clinics, walking groups, support sessions for parents, and baby & toddler groups.

Rehana completed her training in February 2017 at Home Start’s Family Hub in Sheffield. She really enjoyed the training and although some of the course work was difficult, she successfully completed the training with some support from Rina, her volunteer coordinator, and from Home Start staff.

‘I enjoyed learning about helping people’

‘I learnt new things about
how to look after children’

‘I feel more confident after completing the course.
I now feel I am able to do
 more courses’

Getting into work after being a housewife is something Rehana really wants to do and volunteering is giving her the experience she needs to kick-start her career. This work is part of the Best Start – Early Years programme and is being delivered by organisations across Sheffield: Home Start, Zest, SOAR, Manor and Castle Development Trust.
