Why involve employee volunteers?
Employee volunteers can bring new talent, skills, knowledge and energy to community organisations and charities.
If you involve these volunteers you can:
- Gain a fresh perspective from people who haven’t always done it the same way!
- Have teams of volunteers plan and undertake major tasks. Voluntary organisations often have great ideas but lack the resources to carry them out.
- Increase understanding between your organisation and the public/private sectors. This can lead to longer-term links and access to resources and support.
- Raise your profile. Involving employee volunteers increases public awareness of your work.
Employee volunteering can be
- day-long ‘team challenges’
- team projects that are planned and delivered over a longer period
- individual volunteering
The volunteers decorated a dining area. It was in desperate need of decoration. A lot of entertainment and activities take place in there so it is now in a better condition to meet those needs and is very welcoming and enjoyable for the residents.

Individual employee volunteers can make brilliant trustees and management team members. Some have specialist skills such as business planning, team building or marketing.
