Tell us about your role and what it involves?
As a volunteer at the Victoria Hall drop-in centre, my responsibilities involve registering individuals’ names into the system when they arrive. Additionally, I provide them with a comprehensive introduction to the various services available at Victoria Hall. In some instances, I also offer basic translation support to individuals who do not speak English, ensuring effective communication and understanding for all attendees.
Why did you decide to start volunteering with SAVTE?
I consider cooperation to be an essential and noble obligation that should be ingrained in social life. It is through cooperation that individuals in a society truly connect with one another and assume responsibility for each other, fostering a harmonious and thriving civil society. With this belief in mind, I undertook a volunteer training course at the SAVTE Centre, allowing me to contribute my skills and knowledge in an academic capacity. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to volunteer and find great joy in being able to make a positive impact through my service.
What do you enjoy about volunteering?
Volunteering exposes me to diverse cultures and ideas, enriching my perspective and equipping me with valuable skills and knowledge. Interacting with individuals from various backgrounds enables me to navigate different viewpoints and ideas, fostering personal growth and expanding my understanding of the world. The gratification I derive from assisting others is immeasurable, as it brings me immense joy to be able to make a positive impact in people’s lives.
